In italiano il nome dello sport coincide con l’oggetto usato per praticarlo, cioè “skateboard, una tavola munita di  4 ruote, due anteriori e due posteriori. Consiste nello scivolare sull’asfalto, fino ad arrivare a fare trick e acrobazie per i più esperti.

Skateboarding means riding on a skateboard, a board equipped with 4 wheels, two in the front and two in the back. You can ride on paved roads or on ramps in skateparks: tricks and stunts are only for the more experienced.

BENEFICI / BENEFITS

Aumenta la propriocezione e la precisione negli spostamenti del corpo, inoltre  è anche un potente mezzo di aggregazione, in quanto, a differenza di molti altri sport, non è troppo presente la competizione: ci si aiuta e ci si sostiene l’un l’altro, migliorandosi a vicenda. Aiuta ad abbattere le barriere culturali e sociali, a favore dell’inclusione sociale e della parità dei sessi, in quanto, a differenza di altri sport da contatto, non è la forza a fare la differenza (secondo gli ultimi dati, sono più le ragazze a praticare lo skateboarding).

This sport is not only good for your health, but it is also a powerful means of aggregation:  skaters help and support each other in order to improve together. It helps to break down cultural and social barriers and it fosters social inclusion and gender equality, as, unlike other contact sports, it is not strength that makes the difference. According to the latest data, more and more  girls go skateboarding.

Nella città di Viareggio può essere praticato nella pista di pattinaggio nella zona dell’ex-Campo d’Aviazione e soprattutto nella Passeggiata dove è possibile ammirare bellissime architetture liberty del primo ‘900.

In the city of Viareggio  skating can be practiced in a rink in the area of the former Airfield and especially in the Promenade where you can admire beautiful Art Nouveau buildings from the early 1900s.

CURIOSITA’ / CURIOSITIES

Gli inventori dello skateboard, ovvero quei surfisti che in California negli anni ’60 volevano allenarsi anche quando il mare era calmo e non c’erano onde per fare surf. Abituati a cadere nell’acqua, si sono procurati tanti lividi rotolando sul fondo delle piscine vuote dove si riunivano per fare pratica.

The inventors of the skateboard are some Californian surfers who, in the 1960s, wanted to train even when the sea was calm and there were no waves to surf. They were used to fall into the water, so they got many bruises when they practised on the bottom of empty pools.
